We recently traveled to Italy (August 2021)and were pleased to see most sites open to the public. We visited Milan, Venice and Rome and felt completely welcome the entire time.
While traveling during these times of a global pandemic we did experience some delays, but I would say as a frequent traveler they didn't seem more than usual. In fact, in some cases we found things were more swift than normal, such as entering the country. Not wanting large crowds standing together in the passport/customs lines lead a to quick and painless journey into the Italy!
Things to be aware of, always do your research before leaving the country so that you are up-to-date (as you can be, I know things change daily sometimes) on the country's precautionary measures as they deal with the pandemic.
Remember you are a guest (tourist) in their boarders, you chose to go there and see the amazing sites. You may not agree with the way they are handling Covid, but as a guest you must follow their rules. I would say the if you do not like the way a country is handling the current situation maybe you should wait until another time to travel.
For those like me who cannot wait to get out and explore the world, be patient with the officials (boarder agents, police, tourism guides and sites) remember this is new to them too!
Be ready for rules to change while traveling! Our last 2 days in Rome you had to present a Green Pass (for EU residents only) to enter may public sites. We found simply keeping our CDC Vaccine cards and identification with us while site-seeing provided us the proper documentation needed to enter the sites as well.
Bon-voyage! and Enjoy to the fullest!
